Behind the Seen

After visiting Sculptures by Painters at Daniel Faria Gallery (October 2 - November 6, 2021), Jason discovered “sculptures” behind the building housing the gallery and others along St. Helens’ Avenue.

The photographs depict items that would be deemed trash, junk, or things used and discarded. The artist is interested in the process that determines what is worthy of public display or exhibition and what is relegated to the background in the environments that we live in and pass through. What objects form the “subconscious” of a building? These objects are not meant to be seen, they pass unnoticed. The photos are about noticing, they identify the beauty in these objects. They are worthy to be photographed, they are transformed into art.

Bringing what is unseen to light shows that our repressed emotions, our fears, our sorrows shouldn’t be hidden from view. It is through the acceptance of these things that we can be our true selves and fully human.
